It's hard to believe how fast time goes and that it's already May. Emily is almost 8 months and getting places very quickly. This week she started crawling and sitting all by herself. Exciting times, but soon we will have to put gates up as her favourite place seems to be the kitchen.
Yesterday was Mother's Day here which is such a big thing. It's almost as big as Christmas. Last week I went to look for clothes for Rich in one store and could hardly find the men's section as the ladies section had taken over almost the whole first floor! Restaurants are packed on the day. Every school, group, Bible study and regular get-together seems to have something special for Mother's Day. Last week, the ladies meeting at church had such a thing. I was in charge of making some of the refreshments. With a friend of mine, we made 65 hat cookies, using a bigger and smaller circle of shortbread cookie and a bit of icing around to make it look like a hat. It was fun and manage to be enough although there seemed to be more than 65, closer to 80 women and kids.
Over Easter, we went to Cajamarca for the week-end as Rich was asked to speak at a conference. He taught through the book of Mark over the week-end and did a Passover meal on the Saturday. It was a great week-end, especially as there were 2 other families who went up whose husbands we also busy teaching. So the wives and kids did fun stuff, like going to the Inca baths! I love the climate in Cajamarca. It's so much drier than Trujillo although it was still rainy season when we were there. It was so nice to hear, smell, feel the rain. I miss it! Lucas made a new friend with the little boy of the family that live at the church where we stayed. He even went to Sunday School with him without any problems. He'd started staying in Sunday school only a couple weeks before. Emily is now getting to the stage she doesn't want to be with just anybody. So now that Lucas stays, Emily's not so keen to stay in the nursery.
Youth group has been a bit slow starting this year. Many of the group from last year, moved up to the older group so we're starting from scratch again. Please pray that more will come.
There were elections a few weeks ago for President. No one won a majority so it goes to a second round between the top two. We were hoping for a different outcome, but God knows what he's doing and can work in any circumstances. The voting for the final outcome is June 5th.
Until next time...
