Felices Fiestas Patrias! July 28th is Peru's celebration of independance. The poor students had classes as normal, but we did give them a break in the evening and had a bar-b-que and games night. It's Peru's biggest holiday, but all the malls and stores are open as usual, not even shorter hours. I guess they figure the people who are off work will need something to do and they may want to spend money. This also means there are lots of 'sales'. This can be deceiving though. I saw a toy for Lucas a few weeks ago at a certain price, but thought I would wait for it to go on sale. Today in the store, it was advertised as being on sale, but for the same price I had seen a few weeks ago. To top it all off, I went to where I had found it and saw that the supposed 'original' price was three soles more. So they put the price up, then put things on sale for the actual original price. Cunning or what?
The schools are still of this week due to swine flu, but they are now talking about having to have classes until January or on Saturdays to make up the days.
Rich just has one more class to teach tomorrow, then he is finished his course for now until he has to teach it in night school. He's been suffering with migraines this week, so please continue to pray for health, especially in this last week of the institute.
Ok, will leave it there for now.
Until next week...
