Yesterday, when we arrived at the church, we were greeted by a bottle of hand sanitizer. Sunday school classes and the nursery were cancelled yesterday and next week as well. It was announced we were not to greet each other with a kiss. The Elliot Christian School has been shut for a week. All of these because of known or suspected cases of swine flu. There are lots of different colds and flus going around so it's hard to know how many actually have swine flu. So if you think of it, please pray for us to stay healthy. Society here is very conducive for spreading germs, especially in greeting. They did announce it at church to not kiss, but it's so engrained in the culture that most people forgot after a couple of minutes. It is amazing how quickly you get used to things tho' because it did seem very strange and almost cold to not be kissing everybody.
Well, enough about swine flu, what else happened this week? Hmm...I felt rotten with a cold all week and Lucas has had it as well which meant he slept for 3 hours a couple of days. I was starting to get used to it, but must have been because he was not well as it hasn't continued.
Rich had a very busy week-end starting with the couples Bible study. Because of the drop in attendance we thought we could switch back to holding it in someone's house for a cosier environment. But the number dropped even more and it started much later. Seems to be the way it goes - having it in the church people arrived on time, but in a home they tend to come at all hours. We didn't end up doing a study as there were so few, but we are going to try again this Friday and back at the church.
On Saturday there was youth group as usual, and after that Rich was speaking at the older youth group in the evening. On Sunday, Rich taught his discipleship class then ran off to go preach in Chiclin, a small church plant about 40 minutes from Trujillo. The youth Bible study was down in numbers yesterday, but the few that were there were opening up and asking good questions. Sometimes a smaller group gives more opportunity for interaction.
Wednesday was our monthly ladies meeting in the church. I was in charge of looking after the kids so wasn't in on much of it. This week the mothers and toddlers group is meeting.
Until next time...
