Wednesday we almost had dinner by candle light as the power went out. This was a bit unusual as power cuts aren't too common and are normally on Sunday mornings. Sunday there was a power cut as well from 7:30am - 4:30pm. They do let people know but only if you listen to the news or read the paper which we're not in the habit of doing, so it's always a surprise. You'd think there would be a back up system for the traffic lights, but there's not and in reality, the traffic flows better without them. I guess this is why they do maintenance on Sundays as there are less cars around.
Birthdays are a very big thing in Peru. Lucas was invited to a neighbour's 5 yr old party last week at Happy Land (children's arcade with lots of little rides and games). It's unbelievable how much people spend on parties here, but it's always a good opportunity to get to know the neighbours better.
Saturday, we had the teenagers over from 4-10 for games, pizza making competition and movie. As I don't get to the youth events much, it was nice to have them here to get to know them all a bit better and be able to put more faces to names.
As most of you are enjoying summer, we're in mid-winter which doesn't mean cold weather, but does mean fluctuating of temperatures and cold/flu season. Rich very kindly shared his cold with me, so my head is a bit congested at the moment. We still continue to hear of more cases of swine flu around as well.
Will close for now and go take some vitamin C!!
