The last blog was written a while ago but I forgot to post it, so it's a bit old, but there we go. The full-time institute module has finished now. Last week, Rich was teaching a course on Job and Micah was teaching 1Peter, so the students had a week of suffering. We were up to 9 students the last week, which was encouraging. To finish off, 2 more students graduated. Since the students can start at any point in the course and don't always make it for all the modules there are now a few students graduating every other module or so. Even though there aren't many we still make it special and rent caps and gowns for them. To see pictures, click here.
The moms and tots girly chocolate night went very well with a record number of mums - 13. Normally we get around 7, so it a good time to get to know each other a little bit better especially without the distraction of our children. This Friday, we are going to a kindergarten called Pepe which has just started this year in a very poor area and has 20 children ages 3-5. The very typical thing to do here at Christmas is have hot chocolate and panetone, called a chocolatada. This is still very strange to me that they have hot chocolate in the summer, but anyway. We're going to do a chocolatada for them and their mums. While we were having a planning meeting to organize this at another mum's house, Lucas was playing on a porch swing with Grace when all of a sudden, the seat flipped over and they were both screaming!! Thankfully, they didn't do too much damage, although Grace did chip a tooth. Concrete is not very forgiving.
Lucas is growing so quickly these days and is discovering many new things, including that he can climb over the stair gate. Our stair railings would not meet safety standards in Canada or Britain so this is not a good thing. His vocabulary is continuing to develop, which is challenging as he picks up on words that we use. I have a habit of saying 'oh stink' when I forget something or realize I haven't done something, etc., but Lucas, as a result, has learned a new phrase. Although he usually says 'oh stink, mama'. They are little sponges at this age and absorb everything around them. I took the plunge and put up our Christmas tree, and thankfully Lucas has pulled much off it yet.
Well, will close for now. Hope all of you in the northern hemisphere are enjoying winter for me. If anyone wants a break from the cold, feel free to come visit us here in sunny, hot Peru!
