School year has started and weekly activities are back up and running. This also means Rich has leadership meeting and night school every Monday night so I have time on my own which I will try to put aside some of for blogging. No guarantees I will keep it up or blog every week but I will try very hard to keep the prayer points up to date. January was a manic month with lots of different training programs going on at the same time. We also had some of the visiting teachers for these programs staying with us a different points in time. February brought some surprise visits, including my dad and brother. I was keen for my brother to see life in Peru, especially the driving side of things as he works for the city in transportation. He thought it was very interesting and took pictures of the most random things. Last week was Lucas's 3rd birthday. It's amazing how time flies! He's doing well, but still struggling with Spanish. Technically he should start school this year as it is Peruvian law that kids start school at age 3, but we thought it was a bit early for him. And he needs to be toilet trained before he can start school. We had a go at that last week, but he's no where near ready, so we'll wait a bit longer. He on the list for a school for next year, so we have until then. :)
Usual activities are starting up again. IBEM night school is every Monday. The couples Bible study has started up as well and has a new married couple added to the group.
Yesterday we went to a church on the outskirts of Trujillo, Wichanzao. It's a fairly small church with around 20 people there yesterday. Normally, Emily is very quiet and content, you could almost forget she was there. Lucas is normally the wild child and is full of energy. Yesterday they decided to switch rolls. Lucas was very well behaved during the service and very quiet. Emily on the other hand, I don't think I've ever heard her make so much noise, babbling, crying, squealing. Rich has to stop part way through his introduction because everyone was looking at Emily and no one was listening to anything he was saying.
The Bible study in our building is still going strong. There were fewer in attendance over the summer, but that's to be expected and last week the usual group was right back into it. They all want me to give classes on baking, but I'm not sure I know how to teach baking. Baking is part of my inheritance. And as my uncle who's a chef once said, 'if you can read, you can cook.' Although the concept of a recipe is a somewhat foreign concept to many people here, which I find hard to understand.
Anyway, I should probably stop rambling and do something more productive, but just thought I'd fill you in on a bit of what's been happening around here.
