This week-end, Luis Mostacero went on a short missions trip with a group of young people, some IBEM night school students, to Polan, a small town in the mountains. This was supposed to be combined with a GLO team, but no one signed up as it's not the best time of year. This is perhaps a good things as the team had some interesting experiences. In the church in Polan, there was an elderly elder who was organizing the team and was very excited about it all. He wanted the whole town to hear the gospel. Due to some car trouble on the way up, the team arrived later than expected. But on their arrival they discovered this older man had passed away. This changed some of the plans for the week-end, but also provided a great opportunity to share the gospel. This man did get his prayer answered as virtually the whole town came to the church for the Saturday night meeting to honour his life. What made the meeting a little 'interesting' was the man's body lying on a table with a sheet over it at the front of the church. He was a Christian and we can celebrate with him that so many were able to hear the good news.
Back here, we were celebrating in a different way. Lucas was invited to a birthday party for 3 year old twin who live in our building. This meant that half the parking lot and grass area was covered with a large marquee/tent thing. As I've said before, birthday are a very big thing here and some go to great expense. Lucas wasn't really sure what to do, so kept trying to escape, until he saw someone bringing food. He followed her around until he got some. He finished the evening pretty exhausted.
On Wednesday, we had the mums and tots group again, in part to try and encourage the mums to go to the ladies retreat this coming week-end. We had a good turn out and an enjoyable time together. The leaders of the ladies meeting have had a busy time organizing the retreat. I'm in charge of the money as I'm the treasurer for the group. This is a somewhat frustrating job as not very many people have paid for the retreat but we have to pay the camp the whole lot. We also are not sure how many will actually show up on the day but have to give an exact number ahead of time. It's strange being on this side of things after working at Guelph Bible Conference Grounds for several years and having to deal with groups changing numbers until the last minute. There are still lots of last minute things needing to be done so this will be a busy week.
Next time.... report on retreat!
