Sorry I'm a bit late this week. Last week was a busy week. On Tuesday morning, I got a call at 7am from a friend to say her father was in hospital and she needed someone to look after her daughter Grace. In state hospitals here, you need to have someone there with you to do all the running around. You have to pay for everything, so if you need your temperature taken, you need to go buy a thermometer, or if you need a needle, you have to provide one. This also results in sharing of these things if someone cannot pay for needles,etc.. Also, someone needs to be there to make sure things actually get done, such as a blood transfusion that he didn't get until they kept reminding the doctors it needed done. They were pretty stressed and exhausted. So we had Grace for several hours for a few days. The first day, Lucas was glad to have a play mate, but the second day he wasn't sure what to think of someone taking his mum's attention for another day. It was fun having two of them, but difficult going out as kids here don't come with car seats. I did manage to recruit help from a friend to hang out the mall with us and chaparone Grace and Lucas on their first date at Starbucks. It was encouraging to me that Damariz felt confident enough to ask such a favour. It did give me the idea that I could have Grace one moring a week to teach her English and Damariz could have Lucas once a week to teach him Spanish. We'll see how it goes. Her dad is out of hospital and staying with them but is still not well. Please pray for his full recovery.
On Saturday, Lucas had a fever so we called the doctor just in case with all the swine flu going around. Thankfully he's fine, probably just from teething, but I must admit that I was looking forward to a week of quarintine (a.k.a. imposed rest).
